The $2 million Carolina Cyclone opened on March 22, 1980. It was built by Arrow Development of Mountain View, CA. They also built the parks Powder Keg Flume and Goldrusher mine train coaster. Many people do not realize that the Carolina Cyclone once held a world's record. Yes! When the Cyclone opened in 1980 it was the first coaster to contain 4 loops! That record was very short-lived as looping coasters were all the rage during the 80's. Soon there would be 5, 6 and even 8 loop coasters as parks began to push the limits of what riders could endure. The Carolina Cyclone is still with us today.

Drawing of the proposed Carolina Cyclone released in the summer of 1979. (Rock Hill Herald)
